Our Active Ageing Class has been designed and is led by our Qualified Physiotherapists, Ed and Phoebe. Our aim is to help you stay strong and confident as your body changes over time. As we age, it’s natural to experience a gradual decline in balance, muscle strength, and flexibility, but the good news is that the right kind of exercise can slow, stop, and even reverse many of these effects. Through carefully guided sessions, we focus on improving strength and stability, maintaining mobility, and helping you move with ease in your everyday life.

 

A key part of our approach is introducing safe and effective weight training. While cardio has its benefits, strength training is especially important for maintaining muscle mass, supporting bone health, and improving joint stability as we age. Many people are surprised to learn that lifting weights doesn’t mean heavy or intimidating, it simply means working your muscles in a controlled, supportive way that helps you feel stronger and more capable.

 

Central to our sessions is the principle of progressive overload. This simply means gradually increasing the challenge placed on your body over time. Whether that’s adding a little more resistance, improving your range of movement, or increasing repetitions, this steady progression is what leads to real, lasting improvements, without overwhelming your body.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
​We also follow what’s often called the “Goldilocks” approach to exercise, finding the amount that’s not too little and not too much, but just right. Doing too little won’t bring results, while doing too much can lead to fatigue or injury. Our Physiotherapists, help you find the perfect balance so you can progress safely and consistently.
 
We also tackle common myths that often hold people back. Weightlifting, when done correctly, is not dangerous, it’s one of the safest and most beneficial forms of exercise available. It doesn’t damage your joints; in fact, it helps protect them by strengthening the muscles around them. Our goal is to give you the knowledge, confidence and ability to feel comfortable, capable, and empowered in your body.
